So, back in October we ordered a bunch of seeds in preparation for our new organically grown vegetable side hustle as well as for potential hedge row plants. The Incredible Seed Company in Nova Scotia had sooooo many great options we totally went to town!
Tree seeds generally need to be stratified before they will germinate … something I didn’t know much about until I visited the Incredible Seeds website – they explain it very well and give detailed instructions for how to prepare their seeds for germination.
The heartnut, which is also known as a Japanese Walnut, required 120 days of cold stratification before germinating so that means placing them in a container with moist planting medium and placing them in the fridge. We had a whole section of our fridge cordoned off for seed stratification for most of the winter but it seems to be paying off! Yay!!
